WHAT IS THE TOUR DU ALS

The Tour du ALS is a foundation oriented to collect funds and donate it to the research agains the ALS syndrom and give emotional support to the people that carry it. The ultimate goal of the organization is to raise awareness via the cycling community and their families and inspire more and more people to donate to this cause. Therefore its moto "Samen Trappen we ALS de Wereld uit!", which can be freely translate into "together we cycle ALS out of the world".

To raise awareness and inspiration, the foundation organizes every year to face a famous cycling challenge. In 2013 the challenge is the famous french mountain Mont Ventoux, where several iconic Tour de France moments happened. The challenge will happen in June 7th with 3 types from easier to the most challenging one, depdending on the fitness level of each participant.

3 x CLIMB - The most difficult option start in Bedoin (the Tour de France official start) and climb all the way up the mountain. From there, descend direction Malaucéne and back to the top of the mountain again. This means the biker has done Mont Ventoux twice and now descend it towards the village of Sault to attempt the 3rd climb of the giant of Provence going down to the finish line in Bedoin. Which luckly is the easiest climb.

Ride details:
Distance: 140 km
Altitude: 4467 meters
From Malaucéne: 21,1 km, 1585 m en 7,5% (max. 10,5%)
From Bedoin: 21,1 km, 1597 m en 7,5% (max. 10,5%)
From Sault: 25,7 km, 1212 m en 4,7% (max. 7,5%)
Start time: between 05.00 – 06.00
Ride time: ca. 8-10 uur

2 X CLIMB - If that sounds lunatic stuff for you there is the second option: climb Ventoux twice instead of 3 times. The ride start in Bedoin and after the first climb the route goes down to Sault where the second climb start. From the top, wall the way down to Bedoin again for the finish.

Ride Details:
Distance: Bijna 94 km
Altitude: 2882 meters
From Bedoin: 21,1 km, 1597 m en 7,5% (max. 10,5%)
From Sault: 25,7 km, 1212 m en 4,7% (max. 7,5%)
Start time: 07.00 – 08.00 uur
Ride time: ca. 5-7 uur

1x CLIMB - The third and easiest option is to climb Ventoux once. But here comes a word of advice: there is nothing easy about climbing Ventoux. From Sault, the cyclists will go up the mountain and down to the Bedoin for the finish gathering.

Ride Details:
Distance: 50 km
Altitude: 1284 meters
From Sault: 25,7 km, 1284 m en 4,7% (max. 7,5%)
Start time: 11.00 uur
Ride time: ca. 2-3 uur

To register to this you need to pay 125 Euros, when you will get a start number, a top quality polo shirt. The cycling shirt and bibs are also included in the price. This money for it will support the foundation.
